Hutton Consulting Australia would like to congratulate Rev Janet Costello on her appointment to Chaplain of Strathcona Girls Grammar. Janet is a former student at Strathcona Grammar School, a Baptist Minister, qualified teacher, and a highly experienced counsellor and leader in addressing the wellbeing needs of a school community. Janet has been involved in Christian ministry within the Baptist denomination for much of her life and has therefore developed a passion for pastoral care, for both students and staff. Having worked in schools for many years, Janet acknowledges that they are one of the primary communities for staff and students, and the role of School Chaplain is to provide support regardless of spiritual background. Janet began her Pastoral work as a Student Welfare Coordinator, progressed to a School Counsellor role and was then chaplain for ten years at Kilvington Grammar School. Most recently Janet has had the role of Pastoral Care Intern at the Peter MacCallum and Epworth Hospitals. Janet serves on the Board for Machaseh House for homeless youth and the Family Advisory Board at the Royal Children’s Hospital, as well as being a committed member of her local Baptist church community. Janet has a Bachelor and Diploma of Education, Bachelor of Theology and a Graduate Diploma in Counselling. She has also gained a Master of Theological Studies and Ordination as a Baptist minister. Above all, Janet believes that in having a balance between body, mind and spirit we can support students to achieve and choose to live life in all its fullness, something she is looking forward to facilitating at Strathcona Girls Grammar School.
