After an extensive national and international search conducted by Hutton Consulting Australia, the Mater Christi College Board has announced the appointment of Maria Haggett as the next Principal of the school, to commence in 2021.
Ms Haggett has significant experience in educational leadership. Currently in her seventh year as Deputy Principal of St Bede’s College Mentone, Ms Haggett has worked in both Catholic Education and Diocesan roles. Prior to St Bede’s, Ms Haggett held the position of Deputy Principal at Catholic College Sale, Year 9 & 10 Programs Leader at Lavalla Catholic College and Youth and Sacramental Coordinator at St Mary’s Cathedral Parish, Sale. Additionally, Ms Haggett was a partner in a hospitality business in Sale, fulfilling a long-held desire to utilise her skills in commercial cookery and hospitality, alongside her interests in music, the creative arts and AFLW/M.
Ms Haggett is currently undertaking a Doctor of Education at the University of Melbourne and completing a Graduate Certificate in Religious Education at Australian Catholic University. Ms Haggett has completed post graduate studies in Instructional Leadership and Theology; she holds a Bachelor of Education (Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts.
Ms Haggett’s style of collaborative leadership and passion for providing a future focused faith-based education for young women, was inspired during her time as a student at Our Lady of Sacred Heart College in Bentleigh. Her strong personal educational philosophy centres on the development and success of the staff and students within her care.
Ms Haggett is married to Steve Nash and together they are proud parents of two adult children, Lily and Sophie.
