Located 160 kilometres from Adelaide on the shores of Lake Albert at the head of the spectacular Coorong in the Coorong District Council, Meningie Area School provides a broad, general curriculum from R-10 with opportunity to complete SACE in senior secondary to the students of its district.

The Department for Education is seeking a dynamic and inspiring educator, with a commitment to providing equitable opportunities for all students and a strong focus on an educational improvement strategy, to lead this school into the next phase.

The successful candidate will be a motivated, visible and highly relational leader, with an appreciation of Aboriginal culture and cultural diversity. A commitment to working with families and students to understand cultural ties and identity, and to improving their understanding, speaking and reading of Ngarrindjeri Language is essential.

Meningie Area School currently consists of a Junior School (R-Yr 5), Middle School (Yr 6-9) and Senior School (Yr 10-12/13). In total there are approximately 170 students. The students at Meningie Area school come from a variety of backgrounds with approximately 34% of the student population being indigenous students. Many of the Senior School students are undertaking school-based apprenticeships in areas as diverse as agriculture, childcare, conservation and land management and retail.

Beginning in Term 1, 2022, or earlier by negotiation, the successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to the vision and values of the school.

The successful candidate will be able to:

  • provide educational leadership in the school
  • manage the day-to-day operations of a school
  • lead staff in a culture of trust and empowerment for continuous growth
  • manage wellbeing and behavioural matters in a timely and effective manner
  • demonstrate an understanding of all elements of school leadership that are required to successfully manage finances, risk, human resources and facilities
  • continue to develop an ongoing culture of community participation and partnership.

Only two hours from Adelaide and one hour from Murray Bridge, Meningie is the closest township to the Coorong National Park and as such offers opportunities to get to know one of Australia’s most environmentally significant areas. The Coorong is widely recognised as a national treasure and the area, including lakes Albert and Alexandrina, is recognised under the Ramsar Convention as a wetland of international importance.
