St Philip’s Christian College Newcastle (NSW) is seeking an innovative and future-focused educator, committed to Christian education, to lead English.
The Lead Educator (English), as a part of the College Leadership Team (CLT), plays a vital role in leading and contributing to the health and vitality of our Christian educational community. All members of the CLT consistently demonstrate their personal and professional commitment to fulfilling the vision that “every student develops a personal faith in Jesus Christ and is empowered to live with purpose, integrity and joy.”

St Philip’s Christian College Newcastle, has almost 1400 students and is located in charming residential Waratah, an inner-city suburb of Newcastle. Founded in 1982, the College has become a leader in ‘whole of life’ education, attaining regional and national recognition in a range of areas including the Performing Arts, STEM, VET and Christian Mission, while maintaining a record of high academic achievement.
Commencing in Term 1 2021, the Lead Educator (English) plays a key role in the learning and culture of the College. They must be a passionate advocate for English, able to lead a team and develop collaborative practices that lead to positive student outcomes. The Lead Educator (English) has a vibrant Christian faith which they are able to share and which also informs the curriculum. Expertise in student-centred learning with a visionary focus on the future, the Lead Educator (English) will bring a strong sense of innovation, growth and positivity.
The Lead Educator (English) reports to the Head of Senior School and is committed to the development of self and others with capacity to commend, celebrate, encourage and challenge their team. A solutions-focused approach with a growth mindset, the Lead Educator (English) models excellent teaching and classroom management skills. They are across current and future trends in teaching, have strong networks and are able to build positive relationships across the College to enhance and further the strategic vision and increase student success.

The Lead Educator (English) will be:

• An expert leader of English, within a Christian context
• A collaborative and inspiring educator, with strong relational capacity
• A strategic thinker, who supports a culture of high expectations and aspirations
• Able to analyse data and evidence, evaluate standards and ensure feedback supports continuous growth and improvement.
• Aligned with the College-wide Student-Centred Approach to inform planning and practices
• Able to lead professional learning, staff appraisal and participate in the College Project Team
• A learning leader, who is self-aware, confident, and empathetic

The Lead Educator (English) will work collaboratively with the other Lead Educators as an influential, positive, creative and visible leader.
