Ballarat Grammar wishes to appoint an innovative, authentic, and strategic Director of Boarding to lead its boarding community into its next exciting stage of development.

Boarding at Ballarat Grammar
The Ballarat Grammar community is vibrant, diverse and considerate. The School is very proud of the strong sense of community that they have nurtured within the boarding houses and of the value system and the trust that they have worked so hard to establish.

The boarders at Ballarat Grammar are vibrant young people from great families who are keen to support the school community. Boarders have a strong presence in the school overall and make a vital contribution to leadership and to all parts of school life. The strong country values of Ballarat Grammar boarding families are reflected in the open and friendly nature of the boarding students.

The boarders are girls and boys from Years 7 to 12 from all over Australia with the majority coming from regional and rural areas in western and northern Victoria, southern New South Wales and a small number from overseas. The boarders and their families love how they feel welcomed at Ballarat Grammar and are extremely proud of their connection with the School – a feeling that continues long after they leave.

The Director of Boarding will report to the Deputy Head and will work closely with the Heads of Boarding Houses, Residential Staff, Wellbeing & Pastoral Care staff, Health Centre staff, School Chaplain and the Property & Facilities team to create an outstanding boarding community.

The Director of Boarding is responsible for providing leadership in all aspects of the boarding program, ensuring the highest standards of academic and pastoral support for boarding students at Ballarat Grammar.

Working closely with the boarding staff team to create a safe, supportive and caring boarding environment, the Director of Boarding has the responsibility to ensure that the overall program of wellbeing, study, supervision, co-curricular activities and discipline for the boarding community operate efficiently whilst ensuring that each boarding student has the opportunity to develop and reach their personal potential across all areas of school life. Additional responsibilities include communicating with parents and liaising with key staff in the Senior and Middle School on issues affecting the welfare and academic performance of boarding students.

There is a teaching component to this role.

The successful candidate will:

  • hold relevant tertiary and post graduate qualifications and/or experience related to the leadership responsibility required by the position
  • be a qualified teacher, registered with VIT (or eligible)
  • demonstrate experience working in a student residential environment or in a pastoral leadership position
  • have a strong affinity with rural and regional communities
  • have Training in Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect – Education and Care & First Aid qualifications
