Established in 1977, Whittlesea Secondary College (WSC) is a co-educational government school, nestled next to the picturesque King Lake National Park not more than an hour from Melbourne CBD. The College has a strong history of providing students with a diverse and innovative curriculum over the past 40 years. WSC values student empowerment and choice, fostering strong student leadership across the school. In an intentional repudiation of the traditional ‘one size fits all’ factory model of schooling, WSC gives control back to students by empowering them to design their own personalised learning pathways targeting the learning areas they are passionate about and wish to focus on to engender a better understanding of the world around us.
Whittlesea Secondary College is searching for a motivated, enthusiastic and innovative teacher to fill the newly created position of Curriculum Leader – Maths, commencing Term 1, 2020. The position offers the opportunity to lead a committed strategic foray into E-Learning and will involve the continued coordination of the 1:1 device program which commenced earlier this year. The successful applicant will be able to build a positive and exciting vision for, and experience of, technology in school, and adapt to a rapidly evolving school culture. They will enjoy working with, and supporting staff to implement a range of technology tools as part of their teaching practice. Superior communication skills will be essential, as the successful applicant will organise and address large forums of students and parents.
Specifically, the successful candidate will need:
SC1 Demonstrated knowledge of the relevant curriculum, including the ability to incorporate the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills. Demonstrated experience in responding to student learning needs.
SC2 Demonstrated experience in planning for and implementing high impact teaching strategies, guided by how students learn, and evaluating the impact of learning and teaching programs on student learning growth.
SC3 Demonstrated experience in monitoring and assessing student learning. Demonstrated experience in using data to inform teaching practice and providing feedback on student learning growth and achievement to students and parents.
SC4 Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with students, parents, colleagues and the broader school community to support student learning, agency, wellbeing and engagement.
SC5 Demonstrated behaviours and attitudes consistent with Department values. Demonstrated experience in reflecting upon practice and engaging in professional learning to continually improve the quality of teaching.
SC6 Demonstrate a strong commitment to implementing a ‘student empowered’ model of learning, which maximises student engagement, a love of learning and improves learning outcomes.
