Toongabbie Christian College (K to 12) is located in the Western suburbs of Sydney. The College seeks a dynamic, skilled & relational Business Manager.

The College commenced in 1981 as a ministry of Toongabbie Baptist Church. The College’s purpose is to be a caring Christian community that supports families by providing a quality Christ-centred education which develops the whole person for life and eternity.

The College is a Christ-centred learning community where children and young people are given opportunities to grow in their understanding of what it means to live as a Christian in the 21st Century. The College has a reputation as a safe and caring Christian environment where students are encouraged to learn and reach their potential working with committed Christian staff. Toongabbie Christian College offers enrolment to students from a wide range of cultural and denominational backgrounds. The College seeks to work in partnership with families for the Christian education of their children.

The Business Manager is a member of the College Executive and as such, assists and supports the Principal in all aspects of the leadership of the College. Each Executive member fulfils a role in promoting and celebrating the College’s identity as a generous and inclusive community where students, staff and parents/carers are valued and enabled to discover and live out God’s purposes for their lives. The College is committed to walking the journey of character and faith formation, speaking the truth in love and maturing until each one of us attains ‘the whole measure of the fullness of Christ’ (Eph 4:13).

The Business Manager will take the lead in all aspects of financial strategy and management, seeking to ensure the long-term vitality of the College and to maintain and update robust structures to monitor performance and reduce risk. The successful candidate will work closely with the Principal enabling the College Board to adhere to the Purpose of the College ensuring future growth, sustainability and compliance. The Business Manager will work with several key staff, including all members of the Finance Team, the Executive and staff of the College in a manner congruent with College values. As a member of the College Leadership Team, the position will require some involvement in College Community activities outside designated hours.

The Business Manager is responsible to the Principal for most of the non-teaching functions of the College, including College finances and administration services; OOSH; canteen operation; Uniform shop; buildings and grounds; plant maintenance; and cleaning. In relation to College finances, the Business Manager acts as adviser to the Principal and provides financial information to ensure fiscal accountability is maintained.

The successful candidate will hold appropriate accounting/business qualifications (CPA, CA or MBA), have experience in educational or non-for-profit entities and have an innate ability and proven experience to demonstrate:

  • Regular attendance at a Christian Church and a demonstrated faith and lifestyle commitment
  • Knowledge and expertise in the area of financial management, WHS, compliance, policy review and development and management practices.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and proven ability to liaise and communicate effectively with others.
  • Ability to document, implement and monitor administrative procedures
  • Capacity to provide strong relational leadership that is characterised by a desire for continuous improvement, lateral thinking, and innovation
  • Possess highly developed decision making, analytical, strategic, problem solving, verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to manage organisational strategic planning and the effective use of resources to achieve educational goals

Initial appointment will be full time for a five-year period with the opportunity for contract renewal after a summative review in the final year of the contract. A competitive salary will be negotiated appropriate to qualifications and experience.
